TP-Link for the home — where to start
A home network is not built from one device, but there is no need to buy everything at once either. In practice the order is: the router first, then mesh or an extender if coverage is a problem, and after that, if you want them, cameras and smart-home devices.
1. The router — the foundation
Floor area, the number of devices connected at once and your tariff speed decide the choice. For 60–80 m² and 6–8 devices a mid-range Wi-Fi 5 model is still entirely adequate; once there are more than ten devices (phones, a TV, cameras, smart plugs) Wi-Fi 6 makes a real difference. 2. Coverage — mesh or an extender
If the whole home is affected, mesh; if it is one room, an extender. Behind a thick concrete wall a powerline adapter works better. The reasoning, with a comparison table, is in the network expansion section.
3. Cameras — keeping an eye on the house
Tapo cameras give live video on your phone, motion alerts and night vision; footage goes to a memory card or the cloud. Indoor models suit a nursery, hallway and entrance, while a yard needs a weatherproof outdoor model. See the camera guide.
4. Smart home — one step at a time
There is no need to buy a whole kit. The most useful start is one or two smart plugs (for appliances on a schedule) or a bulb. Sensors come later. The smart home guide lays out the order.

Questions about home networks
Is the router from my provider enough?
In a small flat with few devices, yes. With more than three rooms, more than ten devices or any cameras, the provider router usually falls short — then your own router becomes the main one and the provider box goes into bridge mode.
Does everything have to be the same brand?
Not necessarily, but staying in one ecosystem is simpler: TP-Link routers are managed through Tether, Tapo devices through the Tapo app, and OneMesh joins them into one network.
Is it worth moving to Wi-Fi 6?
If you have many devices, yes — Wi-Fi 6 shows its value precisely when many connections are active at once. In a home with four or five devices Wi-Fi 5 is still plenty.
Does a camera require a subscription?
No. With a memory card it works without one. The cloud plan (Tapo Care) is useful because the footage survives even if the device is stolen, and the archive is kept longer.
