Tapo smart switches replace an ordinary wall switch, so the light works both from the wall and from your phone — no changing bulbs, and the switch keeps working for anyone who has never heard of a smart home.

That is the main advantage over a smart bulb: the whole fixture is controlled, including chandeliers and spotlights, and nobody can break the automation by flicking the switch off. Dimmer models set brightness, and multi-gang versions control two or three circuits from one plate.
