What is VIGI AI Detection?
VIGI AI Detection is the AI-powered detection technology in TP-Link VIGI cameras and NVRs. A standard motion detector reacts to any change in the frame — wind, rain, glare, a cat, a moving branch. The result is dozens of false alerts a day, until the operator stops opening them.
VIGI AI recognises what is actually moving — a person, a vehicle, or an irrelevant object. You are notified only when it genuinely matters.
Key features
- Human & vehicle classification — filters out false alarms from animals, leaves and other objects.
- Intrusion detection — define your own activity zones around the areas that matter.
- Line-crossing — draw a boundary and get an alert whenever someone crosses it, in one or both directions.
- Region entering / region exiting — for example, entry to a stockroom or a member of staff leaving their post.
- Abandoned object detection — a warning about a bag or box left in a monitored area.
- Object removal detection — an immediate alert when something is taken from a shelf or display.
- Loitering detection — an early warning when someone lingers in an area.
- Automatic tracking — Pan/Tilt cameras follow a moving person or vehicle on their own.
- Smart Search — the archive is split into Human, Vehicle and Event files, so there is no need to scrub through hours of footage.

AI on the camera or on the NVR?
VIGI can run AI detection in two ways:
- AI by Camera — the camera’s own processor does the analysis. More accurate and it does not load the NVR.
- AI by NVR — the recorder handles the analysis, which brings smart features to older cameras without built-in AI.
