About L3/L2+ Managed.

L2 and L3 managed switches are for networks that need control rather than just extra ports: VLAN segmentation, QoS, link aggregation, port mirroring, ACL access rules, IGMP snooping and SNMP monitoring.

L2 models separate traffic within one site — guests apart from staff, IP cameras apart from workstations, POS terminals on their own segment. L3 models add static and dynamic routing between those segments, so a large office, a hotel or a campus can run several subnets without a separate router in the middle.

Gigabit and 10G uplinks, PoE+ versions and rack-mount cases cover most deployments, and switches in the Omada family are configured centrally together with routers and access points. Send us your network plan and we will specify it. We are the official TP-Link partner in Azerbaijan.

How to choose a managed switch (L2 / L3)

A managed switch differs from an ordinary one in a single respect: you can configure it. VLANs split the network into parts, QoS lets important traffic through first, port isolation closes off unwanted paths, and monitoring helps you find faults. The bigger the office, the more these matter.

A practical order of decisions

1. Port count and speed: 30–50% more ports than users; gigabit is the standard for an office network, and a 10G uplink is useful if there is a server or NAS. 2. PoE: if cameras and access points will connect, you need PoE ports and a sufficient power budget (W). 3. Uplinks: SFP ports matter for links between switches, especially where fibre runs inside the building. 4. Management: models in the Omada ecosystem are managed together with the access points and router from one panel, which is far easier than logging into separate web interfaces.

The most common mistake

Keeping the camera network in the same segment as the office network. Cameras generate constant traffic and, for security reasons, belong apart — the simplest answer is a VLAN, and that is exactly why a managed switch gets bought.

Questions about managed switches

Does a small office need a managed switch?

With 5–10 people and no cameras or guest Wi-Fi, a plain unmanaged switch is enough. As soon as cameras, a guest network or a point-of-sale system appear, you need VLANs and a managed model earns its price.

Do I need a specialist to configure it?

A simple VLAN can be learned through the web interface. But when several switches, access points and a router work together, getting the scheme right from the start saves a lot of time — we do that as well.

How is an Omada switch different from an ordinary one?

Omada models are managed centrally through a controller (OC200 or cloud): every device appears in one panel, settings are entered once and a change applies to all of them at once.

How do I calculate the PoE budget?

Add up the power of the devices you will connect and leave 20–30% headroom. Example: 8 cameras × 6 W ≈ 48 W, so 60–70 W with headroom — meaning a model with a 65 W budget or more.

What about warranty and support?

Every device is sold by the official TP-Link partner in Azerbaijan with official warranty. When we do the installation, the work carries a further 6-month warranty.

Need installation too?

Router and mesh setup, ISP configuration and a Wi-Fi survey — from 25 ₼. Free site visit and quote in Baku, six months warranty.
